I've given you my heart,
A thousand times I've died.
Pulled towards you,
Like a shadow trailing behind.
Escaping from your grasp,
Like a flame reaching for the sky.
Here I am, caught in between,
A body apart from the rest.
Each dawn, from slumber weak,
I spring like thunder from my bed.
Rushing forth,
Like lightning across the sky.
I release you to the wind,
Silent, without a cry.
You fade from sight,
What remains of you but a memory?
From this place to that,
Hope leaves the home.
Dust settles in the heart,
A sign at every turn.
With my own hand upon my chest,
I've marked myself with wounds to remember.
Words break off,
As anger becomes visible.
No one becomes aware,
Of the heartache in between.
To the universe, I give,
The sorrow seen from you.
That it may pass over your head,
The misfortune and the talk.
Deception fools me,
With a head that has become heavy.
In the depths of my soul, I've heard,
All that's hidden from me.
What was my sin,
That pain gives no reprieve?
How bitter life passes,
For this lone rider fallen.
Hurry, the drunken companion,
Calls out with a laugh.
Where have you stayed on the path?
Fear not, come without fear.
A voice from within me,
Chides me,
"Oh rider without a steed,
Why do you linger here?"
A thousand times you've died,
You've tasted the poison of love.
Complain less, oh poor one,
Drink from the cup of gratitude.
