Earth Oracles
Pondering the meaning and consequences of the multiverse, I seek objects that take me to another world. The artists included in Earth Oracles accept the vastness and possibilities of the universe beyond the known or hidden within the mundane. Rather than fear the unknown, they allow it to inspire an engagement with materials, realities, and histories. They show us transformed worlds of the future and the past and worlds that may co-exist with our own. They tell new versions of the histories we were taught, from perspectives that recentre the margins, allowing justice and inspiration not currently available. They transform the expectations we have of objects by surprising us with perspectives and materials we can’t recognize or place in context, taking us out of our illusion of control over our small space in the galaxy. The works are alternate, not of this world or this version of reality. Form, material, history, and the known universe are all called into question, offering the viewer to enter an alternate modernity.
The exhibition was produced by Hirbod Human, Director of Exhibition and Programming at Mayten’s, with F. Talaee serving as the curator.
